Here are four principles I apply to when I try to find the good mentor

I am big believer of formal / school education makes you a living and self / street education make you a fortune. However, self-education is not suitable for majority people because it is boring, frustrating, confusing and lonely. That is why I highly recommend finding your mentor. So how do we find great mentor who can really help us?

Here are four principles I apply to when I try to find the good mentor

1. Find some who inspires you – not just in terms of their measurable success, but the kind of person they are. Find someone who is living the life – in all its aspects – that you want to be living.

2. You can know them by the company they keep. Successful and deeply powerful people will tend to gather a loyal and talented company around them. A teacher’s qualities will be reflected in his students.

3. Beware of comforters and flatterers. Many will try to seduce you in with promises of easy roads and glorious futures. There’s no way to avoid hard work. Investing is simple but not easy. Don’t listen to anyone who promises a ‘workless’ path.

4. Beware to those who would take the work from you. This is another seductive trap – someone who will carry the burden for us. But a life without burdens makes us weak. Find someone who can teach you to fish, not just someone handing out fishes.
